Tonight’s Board Meeting

We have received this “Press Release” (attached below) that is being circulated by some folks in the community calling for the resignation of the Board and the Fire Chief. They base their claim on a lack of fiduciary responsibility after receiving voluminous documents proving that the District has done everything in our power as prescribed by law (including grants, other revenue sources, etc.) to deal with the real issue of the financial collapse of the housing market. Legislative action during that time crippled our ability to recover, and had Prop 117 not become law, we would not have a cash deficit. The two years of restricted recovery on the district would have generated $250,000.

As of May 31, with over $40,000 received from donations, we are showing a $127k deficit with one month of operations before the end of the fiscal year. This is an improvement of $175k this year. So the statements being circulated that we have done nothing to address this are false. We have adopted a 10-year strategic plan to ensure the continued recovery and the establishment of a reserve fund to ensure that future economic down turns are not as devastating.

You will see at the bottom of the attached “Press Release” that it was not intended to be distributed to all of the residents of Groom Creek. Just a select few.

If you support the Groom Creek Fire District and want to continue the level of service with professional firefighters, Please attend tonight’s meeting.

Todd Bentley
Fire Chief
