Hazardous Fuels Service
This project is more of a community effort. It is designed to give your home a bigger buffer from an approaching fire. This is an effort that will not only protect your home, but help protect our community and neighbors.
How it Works:
While true Defensible Space calls for a specific prescription on how and where vegetation resides, you will have the option to keep vegetation in place.
During the assessment, you will be able to point out specific shrubs & trees that you wish to keep. These request will be difficult to fulfill on larger properties as it is difficult to walk around and discuss every tree on your property. Areas that are adjacent to the house will be open for discussion and all trees to be removed will be marked with pink paint.
Services Included:
- Removing standing vegetation that is:
- 5 inch diameter or less
- Unhealthy
- Overcrowded
- Dead
- Removal of dead and down vegetation regardless of size.
What is Not Included in Base Service:
- Removal of needles and leaves that is addressed in our basic service.
- Removal of large diameter trees that is addressed in our overstory thinning projects.
Debris Removal:
- Have us burn it for you. The burning may not happen immediately. We will wait until weather permits burning.
- We can chip the material and leave the chips on site or haul them away.
- You can apply for a burn permit and burn the debris. Burn permits can be picked up at our fire station on Friendly Pines Rd.
- Large diameter log rounds are usuall hauled to our station and stacked along the road for free firewood.
Pricing:
- Rates start at $5/hour or $40/day with the grant discout.
- Many homeowners will sign up for several weeks at a time. On many of these properties, we could potentially spend months working.
- There is no charge for a property assessment and project estimate.
