For years now we have been promoting the creation of defensible space around homes in our area in order to increase resident safety and the survivability of homes, by reducing the flammable vegetation outside of these residences. We are now able to add another fire prevention tool into our arsenal with the single goal of reducing the threat of catastrophic loss from a fire that starts from within the home. And it’s absolutely FREE!
The Groom Creek Fire District along with the new civilian branch of our organization, The Fire Corps, is proud to announce the introduction of our new Smoke Detector Program.
Through a grant provided by the FM Global Insurance Company, we were able to purchase 250 smoke detectors (9 volt battery included) to help us enhance the level of fire protection that our residents currently have already.
We will be available to distribute the smoke detectors throughout the Community of Groom Creek on every Friday between the hours of 9am and 2pm starting on the first Friday in November on the 6th. Distribution will be on a “first come, first served” basis and while supplies last.
So how do I get one?
All you have to do in order to participate in this program is call, (928)778-6519, or email me at ernesto@groomcreek.org with your request and a time of day that would be convenient for you to meet with us. On the agreed upon date, myself along with our on duty firefighting crew will come to your home, install your smoke detector and perform an on-site assessment of any fire hazards that may be present in the home.
When installation is complete you will be presented with a copy of our assessment findings, a fire prevention information kit, and a brochure with simple maintenance tips on how to keep your new smoke detector providing you trouble free service for seasons to come.
