Defensible Space Project
Homeowner Participation Form

Due to Spam, our form has been removed from the site. If you would like to submit your sweat equity form, please mail or fax to us.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Even if you choose not to have GCFD perform your defensible space work, you can help us by submitting a "Sweat Equity" form. This is a simple form that states that you took steps to make your home a bit more fire safe. You simply state hours that you spent, or money spent hiring someone to do this work. Give us your completed form and copies of any receipts (for material or labor). These forms are then submitted to the federal government (your personal information is not given - only the hours you worked) and this helps your Fire District secure funding for future work. PLEASE HELP!

This homeowner participation form is the tracking mechanism for folks who are performing hazardous fuels reduction or "firewise" improvements on their property (by themselves or via contractors) that conforms with the grant project. This allows the project to track their costs and receive a dollar for dollar match in funds. These matching funds are crucial to the success of the total project. We estimated that 40% of the grant work would be done without fire department assistance.

Projects that fall under the scope of the project include but are not limited to:

  • Yardwork including raking, trimming, tree/brush removal, etc. Just fill out the amount of hours spent on this work on your form.
  • Firewise landscaping projects such as installing gravel or decomposed granite around home or planting fire-resistant vegetation.
  • Installing a new roof of tile, metal, or asphalt shingles.
  • Installing dual-pane windows.
  • Installing an exterior fire sprinkler system.
  • Any other home improvement projects that would help your home resist catching fire as a result of burning embers landing on or near your home.
  • Many other items that fall within this project boundar are listed on our Firewise information page.

You can either give us a call or email, or you can print out this form and mail, fax or drop it by the station using the information at the bottom of this page. A few minutes of your time will go a long way in helping keep Groom Creek a Firewise USA community.
