GCFD responds to the Goldwater Fire

Engine 41 & Water Tender 42 on the scene of the Goldwater Fire

At 7:41 pm on Wednesday August 5th, the Groom Creek Fire District was alerted to a report of smoke in the vicinity of the entrance to Goldwater Lake. Engine 41 arrived on scene to find an active wildfire on the Forest Service land adjacent to the City of Prescott’s park. GCFD’s on shift crew consisting of Acting Capt. Robert Tilman and Firefighter Keith Percy extended hose lines for fire suppression and were able to secure a safe anchor point from which to work from. Soon after, they halted the forward progression of the flame front, keeping the fire’s perimeter to just under an acre. Yavapai County Sheriffs assisted with securing the scene of the incident and Forest Service resources arrived to assume incident command, construction of hand line to secure the fire’s perimeter, and assisted with mop up operations.

Off duty GCFD personnel Capt. Nate Hallowell and Wyatt Blair responded to provide Water Tender 42 and additional manpower to the fire scene, while Paramedic Firefighter Gabi Mendez and Firefighter Felix Padilla back-filled the station to respond to any other calls for service while the on shift crew was committed to the wildfire until 2:30 am.
