Volunteer Training Schedule

Volunteer Drill Nights are on the 1st and 3rd Tusdays of each month. (Reserve Drills are on the 2nd and 4th Tusdays).

1)      All volunteers will attend orientation training after acceptance of application. Volunteers whose interest is in fireground operations will have two additional phases of training appropriate to the anticipated level of participation.

2)      In lieu of a taskbook, all volunteers will be given a training handbook with a training checklist. There will be no expected completion times and the training checklist will also serve as the curriculum for the bi-weekly volunteer drills.

Volunteer drills will cover the following topics:

Phase I – District Orientation

1)      District Orientation Training

2)      Driver’s Training

3)      Station Etiquette

4)      First-Aid/CPR

 Upon completion of Phase I all volunteers will be able to serve in station support functions and community service roles (i.e. FireWise, Fire Corps, GCFFA, CERT, Americorps, etc.) and are eligible to continue to Phase II training, if desired.

 Phase II – Operations Orientation

1)      Moderate Pack Test

2)      ICS Training (may be assigned as homework)

3)      Apparatus Familiarization and Apparatus Checks

Upon completion of Phase II Training, volunteers will be able to work day shifts as a ride-along, perform truck checks and are eligible for Fireground Support Training.

 Phase III – Fireground Support

1)      Provided volunteer PPE (helmet, gloves and eye protection)

2)      Water Supply Trailer

3)      Water Tenders

4)      Utility 41

5)      Basic Fireground Operations (Non-IDLH)

6)      EMS Basic Procedures

  3. BLS for HCP

Upon completion of Phase III Training, volunteers will be eligible for tuition reimbursement or GCFFA scholarship to qualify for the Groom Creek Reserve Program
