FEEDBACK FROM OUR 2009 EVENT…

Hi, Just a quick note to thank you for putting on such a great race this weekend. It was my first Groom Creek race. I’ve heard good things about it but just hadn’t signed up. Did this year for the first time, did the Half and enjoyed it all. So well organized and planned. The volunteers always make the difference, and they sure did for this event. All were helpful, just wonderfully nice and enthusiastic, made the work of coming back up that route, that just wouldn’t quit going downhill, believe it or not – seem fun. Keep up the great teamwork. Thanks again

1/2 Marathon Course: This will be one of the most challenging, and mostrewarding 1/2 marathon courses you will do this year. The first 2 miles of the course begin on pavement, and then you find yourself on an improved Forest Service dirt road. The overall altitude change is about 1,000 throughout the run with gradual incline changes. But there are many of them! You will enjoy shade from the pine and beautiful views. This run will be very well worth it!10K Course: This challenging 6.2 mile 10 kilometer will start on Friendly Pines Road in front of the Groom Creek Fire Station. The course will stay on Friendly Pines Road for about 3/4 mile and then turn south on Senator Highway, a paved county road. From there, the course will continue continue on Senator Highway, and then onto the dirt portion of the road for the last mile before the turnaround. 5K & 2 Mile Course: The 5k & 2-mile events will be on the same course but will not enter the dirt area. The course starts at about a 6,175 foot elevation and increases to about 6,350 at the 5k turnaround, and tops out at about 6,450 feet at the 10k turnaround. There will be 3 water stations offered on the course. Water stations will be provided at the 2-Mile Run/Walk turnaround, the 5k turnaround and the 10k turnaround. The course will offer uniformed Sheriff’s Posse personnel for traffic control.
