Groom Creek Fire District To Start Hiring Process

We are currently accepting applications for Volunteer, Reserve Firefighter, and Lead Reserve Firefighter.  You can find more information at http://www.groomcreek.org/firefighters/employmen/

Regardless of your training, qualifications, or physical ability, we need your help!  We have many volunteer positions available and can work around your needs and schedule.

Lookout Fire

The Groom Creek Fire District is assisting the USFS with the Lookout Fire located about 5 miles south of Groom Creek. We have a water tender assisting at the helibase which is located at Prescott Pines Camp. The helicopters are using Goldwater Lake to refill their tanks – so you will be hearing helicopters in the area.

Chili Cook-Off Corrections

We made a correction on the chili registration form so that the entry fee is $10

We also posted the rules and regulations for the cook-off.

The 4th annual Groom Creek Chili In The Trees will be this Saturday at the

Jack Maze Park.  We look forward to seeing everyone there and we appreciate all your continued support!

Notice of Job Opening

Position: Fuels Crew Member

Salary: $20,800 annually ($10.00 hourly)

Position Description- Fuels Crew Member

Division- Operations, Fuels Management

Supervised By: Fuels Crew Field Supervisor

Definition: Under limited supervision, operate the apparatus, equipment, PPE, and perform day-to-day operations of the fuels crew.

Essential Functions: The functions for this position include but are not limited to, lifting, bending, chainsaw operations, chipper operations, driving, radio operations, contacting public, human resources, hiking, dragging, prescribed burning, wildland firefighting and computer skills.

Tasks:  You must ensure the apparatus and equipment maintenance is complete.  Be proactive in ensuring you are always busy and work within the hours allotted.  You must be confident and competent when working and talking with the public about fuels and other Fire District operations.  Work closely with outside contractors and cooperators.  Understand the SOPs of Groom Creek Fire District, so you can assist in any aspect when needed and requested.  You must posses the basic computer skills to be able to maintain an accurate work record.  The records must be kept neat so they are easily accessed for quarterly reports.

Knowledge and skills:

Knowledge of GCFD SOPs

Knowledge of chipper safety, maintenance, and operation

Knowledge of chainsaw safety, maintenance, and operation

Knowledge of basic computer skills, such as typing, Microsoft word, excel, and access

Knowledge of basic fuels information regarding fire safety and forest health

Knowledge of basic fire behavior, weather, and suppression techniques

Knowledge and understanding of the public in Groom Creek with regards to hazardous fuels treatments, smoke impact, and professionalism.

Adaptive leadership skills due to the dynamic nature of the Fuels programs.

Attributes: Proactive, Professional look and attitude, goal oriented, educated, honest, strong work ethic, personable, approachable and ability to lead when requested.

Minimum Qualifications:  Wildland FFT2 upon employment and a valid driver’s license. S-212 Wildland Powersaws class completed within 6 months of employment.

Any successful candidate will be subject to a one-year probationary period

and must pass a background investigation.
